Breakfast Club – Parent Update November

Dear Parents,

This week Sunday, November 6 Generation Change concludes.  Sunday, November 13 marks a new 5 week series called THE DISCIPLE EXPERIMENT: sessions to help students deepen their faith.  I am still working to get a teacher for this class (please let me know if you are interested).

A part of this class is an optional 30 day experiment.  This 30 day experiment consists of a different theme each day, scripture, and reflection and is done at the students leisure outside of Breakfast Club.  I am very aware of the vastness of the youth ministry with 6 key components: Breakfast Club, L-365, SMACK, SnL, FCA, and FOREFRONT Ministries.  I want to be careful to not make them too “busy” with stuff but yet allow for each student to grow, we give all of these options not because every students needs to do everything.  Instead, we offer various options for what best allows each child to “fit in” and grow (realizing each student is different).  This is an optional 30 day experiment that students can choose to do that consides with the class.  Whether or not your child decides to take part in the 30 day experiment they can still come to Breakfast Club.

January thru May we will work off of our 7 year Curriculum Plan and study Gensis and Exodus with Stacy DeMaster as the lead teacher.

If you as a parent would like resources to help with you continue to develop your childs faith at home.  I am here to listen and pray with you as well.  If you would like training or a parenting class I can bring in someone or work at providing training for you. Remember you are the main spiritual mentor for your children.  I am here to support in any way possible.

Sincerely,

Dubbs

Leadership 365 Application

Hi future Student Leader!

First off, congratulations! You have chosen to read through this application up and consider
the possibility of becoming involved in L-365 as a Student Leader!!!

Every significant leader has started out in your shoes- with an opportunity to lead.

You should know that God wants to help you become a strong leader within the
gifts, talents, and skills He has given you. You were created with a specific
leadership capacity that God wants to use for the good of those around you. The
amazing thing about God’s ways, is that He uses people, like you and me, who are
far (very far in cases like mine) from perfect to bring about His goodness in other
people’s lives. Jesus did this with the disciples whom he selected. To the naked eye-
they weren’t anything special- but to Jesus- they were future leaders, and they
became just that. There is no doubt in my mind that God wants to do this in your
life. The question is…. will you respond?

If the answer is yes, then please fill out this application with a measure of
seriousness that honors what God wants to do in your life.

Leadership Application

I look forward to rooting you on as you step into this leadership opportunity!

Blessings,
Mike Dubbink

A Conversation with Jesus

The more and more I read about Jesus. . .the more I am completely captivated by Him. Seriously, there is no end to my amazement. . . I am in awe of how he thinks with such creativity, how he acts with such authority, and how he interacts with such compassion. He is staggeringly brilliant. His grace is deep, persistent, and disarming. Reading about the life Jesus led on earth simply takes my breath away.

What fascinates me the most are conversations that Jesus has with ordinary people like me. His intentional choice of words in every situation communicates so much about his focus and priorities. These interactions are a bottomless well of insight into the mind of Christ; the very mind of God.
If I had been wandering around during the time Jesus lived, what would he have said to me? how would that conversation go down? When I look at the book of Mark, Chapter 10, I find a man that I can truly identify with. He approaches Jesus and asks what he should do. The conversation goes like this:
As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. “Good teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

“Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone. You know the commandments: ‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, you shall not defraud, honor your father and mother.’
“Teacher,” he declared, “all these I have kept since I was a boy.”

Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said.“Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
At this the man’s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth.

Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!”

The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said again,“Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”
The disciples were even more amazed, and said to each other, “Who then can be saved?”

Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.

My heart aches when I read this, because I can relate to the rich man. I do good things, but when it comes to giving everything, I am bound to hesitate. I don’t want to be the man (or woman) that walks away from Jesus, sad because I cannot bring myself to let go of all the things that make me comfortable.
I don’t want to be that guy.
